Rev. Sergio D. Monterroso, originally from Guatemala, and Kimberly D. Monterroso, originally from Kentucky, met in December 1991 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Ten months later, they were married in the church where Kim grew up. Both come from Nazarene homes and served in various ministries within their local churches from a young age.

Sergio studied History and Sociology at Del Valle University in Guatemala, and Kim studied Education at Northern Kentucky University. Sergio worked as a teacher in Guatemala before moving to the United States, while Kim taught children with special needs in Kentucky.

In 1999, Sergio and Kim founded Indianapolis First Hispanic Church of the Nazarene. Sergio was ordained in 2013.

Together, they have pastored two churches: Indianapolis First Hispanic, where they served for 17 years, and Nueva Vida in Georgetown, Kentucky, where they served for 10 years. In the Indianapolis District, they started seven Hispanic congregations, two of which became organized churches. In the Kentucky District, they started 84 new ministries, including Hispanic, African, Haitian, Burmese, and English-speaking congregations; 12 of them became organized churches.

They have served as pastors, Hispanic Ministries coordinators, church planting coordinators, and International Ministries coordinators. Sergio also served as assistant district superintendent and completed theological studies through the Indianapolis District Pastoral Course of Study, Nazarene Bible College, and Northwest Nazarene University.

Sergio and Kim have one daughter, Emily; a son-in-law, Jake; a grandson, Jesse; a granddaughter, Zoe Jane; and are expecting another granddaughter in November.

Monterroso, originaria de Kentucky, se conocieron en diciembre de 1991 en Cincinnati, Ohio. Diez meses después contrajeron matrimonio en la iglesia donde Kim creció.
