Matt, Shelby, their son Liam, and their dog Waffle—the Dubé family—are deeply passionate about long-term communal missions with a heart uniquely stirred for Wales (or Cymru, the native name for the country of Wales), specifically North Wales. They are being sent out by Global missions Church of the Nazarene, to be part of a church-planting initiative in North Wales to plant a church in Colwyn Bay as part of a growing movement called The North Wales Network. This network is a missional effort by the Church of the Nazarene to plant and support connected churches throughout North Wales, creating a network of believers and church presence to impact the North of the country through spiritual and tangible care.
North Wales is a region often overlooked—historically marginalized and culturally suppressed. Though rich in tradition and heritage, many of its communities have experienced deep societal and generational pain, leading to a widespread post-Christian identity. Much of this stems from distrust in institutional religion and a history of church hurt, which has left the Cymry (Welsh people) cautious of spiritual outreach leading to a major shift to irreligion in the 21st century.
But God has not forgotten Cymru—and neither have the Dubés.
The Dubé family considers Wales their true home and are committed to becoming lifelong members of the North Wales community, not merely visitors or short-term missionaries. Their vision is to plant a church in Colwyn Bay rooted in the healing and redemptive love of Christ, transparency, and sensitive celebration of local culture and identity—one that walks alongside people, honors Welshness, and uplifts the Cymraeg language. Matt, in particular, has a strong passion for the Welsh language, identity, and cultural preservation, believing these should not only be respected but celebrated in the life of the church.
Through the North Wales Network, the Dubés will join and help start Nazarene church plants, all working together to establish a visible, faithful presence of the Church in the region. Each of these communities will be within about 20–25 miles of one another, allowing for collaboration, encouragement, and shared vision across North Wales.
Central to this mission is: to love like Jesus, to serve humbly, and to create spaces where the Gospel is not just preached, but lived. They believe the people of Cymru are not forgotten, not forsaken, and certainly not fragile—but instead a people of strength, endurance, and deep conviction. The Dubés are honored to be part of what God is already doing in this land and to participate in a long-term movement of healing, community, and transformation through the Spirit of God with a heavy focus on uplifting and preserving Cymraeg and the spirit of the Cymry.
