This project addresses the need for a gospel-centered presence in Belgium, one of the most secularized countries in Europe. In the Antwerp region, less than 1% of the population identifies as Evangelical Christian, and many people are disconnected from the church. Despite this, there is a growing spiritual hunger among individuals searching for meaning and truth.
The project focuses on planting a Church of the Nazarene in Antwerp, beginning with outreach to the Portuguese-speaking community, which includes immigrants from Brazil, Cape Verde, Angola, and Guinea. A small core team is already meeting in a home for worship and discipleship, but growth is limited by space and resources. Support is needed to rent a suitable facility for gatherings and to provide part-time financial support for Pastor Carlos, allowing him to dedicate more time to ministry, discipleship, and theological training.
The vision is to establish a strong, discipleship-focused church that will nurture spiritual growth and raise up new leaders. In the short term, the goal is to develop a thriving small group for the Lusophone community. In the mid-term, the aim is to establish a stable Portuguese-speaking congregation. Looking ahead, the church plans to expand by learning the local language and planting a Dutch-speaking congregation to reach the broader Belgian population. Ultimately, this project seeks to ignite a renewed missionary presence in Antwerp, bringing hope and the message of Christ to a spiritually searching community.
