Hundreds of missionary families have served in the Eurasia Region over the course of the Nazarene Church’s mission to reach the global with the Gospel. When parents become missionaries, or when missionaries birth children on the field, these children become missionary kids. They grow up in a unique cross-cultural ministry orientated setting that deeply impacts their lives.
It is well documented that equal amounts of past generations of missionary kids have experienced complex struggles both on the field and in their adult lives as those who have thrived. Dealing with the consequences of isolation, educational challenges, culture stress, traumatic events, loss and more are common MK experiences. Today we have more history, experience, research and resource available to help support families in the raising of healthy, thriving missionary kids. Whether that is; In the provisions of family debrief retreats, helping our MKs to attend Nazarene led events such as Rendezvous specifically designed for high school aged MKs, helping our MKs to attend global and or regional NYCs, providing up to date books and resources on growing up third culture/MK life, connecting MKs to opportunities to explore their own ministry/missions calling, resourcing our families with access to organizations that provide educational and developmental services. We as a regional team look to provide as much care and encouragement to our missionary families as they serve in our region.
Currently we have 51 current missionary kids on our region. This does not include those whose families will choose in the coming years to come to the field or birth a baby! We have 22 families with a total between them of 51 missionary kids. 15 of them are under 5, 17 are 6-11 years old and 14 are 12-17 years old! In the coming years there are a few different specific areas where donations would be used in the support and development of MKs.
In August of 2024 and November of 2025, we are having regional gatherings that will include missionary kids. It is our desire to be able to provide each family with one or two current books, on the experience of being/raising global citizens/TCKs. It is predicted that a per family amount of $40 would cover both the books and shipping costs. 22 x $40 = $880
Asia Pacific Region generously hosts a high school MK retreat biannually. More information can be found at https://rendezvousmk.org/rendezvous/. Between the 2024 and 2026 event our missionaries could send up to 20 kids that we currently have, more as the Lord provides more missionary families to Eurasia! We would like to be able to provide the retreat costs for each participant, lowering the financial burden on missionary families to the travel costs of getting their MK to the retreat location. The cost for this year is $600 per participant. 20 x $600= $12,000
There have been a number of occasions where missionary kids have qualified to go to Cross Cultural Mobilization Training Event. We would like to have the ability to support these called teens beyond their parent’s available deputation accounts, in order to invest in the next generation of Nazarene ministry leaders. Participant costs are often upwards of $1,500. Contributing a portion of this to support an MKs own contextual abilities to fund raise and parent’s deputation account levels, the region could make sure that called and capable MKs are able to attend such events. 4 x 1500 = $6000
With an increasing number of MKs and an ever-developing structure of support and resource for children who grow up in cross cultural ministry settings, we would like the ability to connect families and kids to the services available to them. Whilst this is a 2 to 3-year budget for planned events and resources, it would be good to have some funding that can be used as necessary within the parameters of Missionary Kids Support, as well as work towards the future events such as Rendezvous! 22 x $300 = 6600
Please join with us as we invest in the future of our amazing missionary kids, consider giving today.
