The church in the Indena Grande Village in Guinea-Bissau was formed about 5 years ago with a group that met under a large tree. The growth was such that the congregation was allowed to use a previously abandoned house, repaired through great local and district effort, as a meeting place.

Later, the church was able to open a school which currently provides free education to more than 50 children in the community; it is the only school on the entire island.

God has blessed the work in this community and the church has continued to grow. It has opened new missions in the nearby villages of Inorei and Anghuaura. The island of Canhabaque, where Indena Grande is located, is one of the largest in Guinéa Bissau. It is made up of nineteen villages and is located about 100km from the capital of the country.

The land and borrowed building where the currently meets will no longer be available to them after June 2022. In response, a member of the village donated the land for the construction of the church building and the school. As of April 2022, a part of the walls of the church building have been built and much progress has been made with through local and district joint effort.

This church building will be made in honor of Rev. Joseph Kennett who was a missionary through the Church of the Nazarene in Paraguay in the 1980s. God used his ministry to call Rev. Mario Martinez, who now serves as a missionary in Guinea-Bissau, to missions.

The church in Indena Grande believes that God will continue to use them to minister to children through the school and to the far corners of their island with the message of the Gospel of Jesus.
