The Mafumbini Church of the Nazarene in Kilifi Town, Kenya, is uniquely positioned to serve their community. Poverty rates are high, and many children do not have opportunities to gain an education. Church leaders felt called to help answer these challenging situations, and collaborated closely with church members who are professional educators. That is how the Kilifi School was born, seeking to serve specifically children who are orphaned or who have parents who are absent in some way.

Classes began in the church hall, and later they moved to semi-permanent mud rooms. Through the course of this project, generous financial partners have helped the school be able to construct 5 classrooms. The students began studying in the new classrooms in 2022. Though there were no doors or windows on the new classrooms, studying in a permanent structure was a significant upgrade for the students and teachers!

As of March 2024, leaders are looking towards the next phase of construction. In order to make the building usable quickly, a temporary roof was installed. In order to complete building, the plan is:
• remove the temporary roof
• raise the walls to support the two other stories we are planning to build
• pour floors
• install doors and windows

The first floor will eventually contain classrooms, a library and the school offices.

The cost of this phase is estimated to be $62,000 USD.

God is using this this school to serve children and their families, creating a safe, supportive place for children to learn. Even families of other faiths are enrolling their children, allowing them to hear of God’s love for them!
