The church in Ecuador has a long-term strategy to see the Kingdom of God grow in the Cotopaxi province. The nearly half a million inhabitants of the province live primarily in rural areas, but travel to cities for work. Over a third of the population is under the age of 14. There are educational and social challenges specific to this area that call for a unique strategy for the church.
The goal at the conclusion of the project is to have at least one thriving church in each of the seven cantons. The church planting center in Latacunga is to serve as the central hub for a wide variety of ministries aimed towards meeting that goal. It will be a central point for pastoral and lay leader training, including decentralized theology classes. It will also host practical outreach activities such as literacy classes, parenting classes, and addiction interventions. When necessary, the Latacunga location will also serve as a point of emergency food collection and distribution.
Leaders plan to plant a new church-type mission annually, with the goal that it will be a fully organized, independent church within two years. Each of those churches will also be expected to plant a new church-type mission in the surrounding community as well.
This umbrella project includes several phases within the total budget. That includes construction at the Latacunga Church of the Nazarene in 2022-2023, leadership training, and the expenses associated with church planting in a multi-year approach.
Will you join the brothers and sisters in the Cotopaxi province as they serve their neighbors in a practical, strategic way?
