Casey serves as a missionary with the Church of the Nazarene in Sighisoara, Romania. Growing up in the Nazarene church, Casey was exposed to the missions mindset at an early age. She graduated from Olivet Nazarene University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Social Work, and then went on to receive her Master of Social Work from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2011. Casey worked for 2.5 years as a School Social Worker in a rural area near her hometown. Then, after serving as a teen camp counselor for two summers in a row, Casey knew God was calling her to missions.
In March 2015, Casey came to Romania for the first time. Since then, she has worked within multiple programs at Veritas, a local non-governmental organization that serves the community of Sighisoara through social and educational programs, as well as children’s ministries of the Church of the Nazarene.
As a social worker, Casey has worked in two of Nazarene Compassionate Ministries’ child development centers, at Veritas and in the nearby village of Tigmandru. Both of these centers use a holistic approach in serving marginalized Roma children and their families by providing for their spiritual, emotional, physical, intellectual, and relational needs. Casey’s involvement in both programs has ranged from leading Bible stories, crafts and games to consulting with Romanian program staff on best practice methods for working with children.
Casey also leads a program called "courage + co", which aims to help young people feel seen, heard and loved through intentional relationships (with self, others, community) and courageous conversations. The "co" represents "connect, cultivate and create", which are themes that the different groups will focus on as they move through the program. The program provides an opportunity for teens to develop their English skills, with a native speaker, while having these courageous conversations and creating the intentional relationships.
Please keep Casey and her work in Romania in your prayers.
