The Zambia Copperbelt District is deeply invested in serving the children in their communities by giving them a place to learn and grow into the people God has created them to be. There are currently 4 Nazarene primary schools in the district:  Kitwe Nazarene Community School, Chilabongwe Nazarene Community School, Chamboli Nazarene Community School, and Mansansa Nazarene Community School. This project is to support the infrastructure and development of these four schools in order to provide high quality education for their eager students.  Many of these schools operate in conjunction with Nazarene Child Development Centers (CDCs). This is a joint project with funding from the local churches in the Copperbelt District, Work and Witness, and other generous partners like you!

Kitwe Community School: This school started as a study room with the sponsorship of 35 children through Nazarene Compassionate Ministries. As the children grew, they needed to continue moving upward to higher grade levels, so the local church decided to open a community school. In 2021, the school started with 4 classrooms, and in November the classrooms (pre-school, reception, grade 1-6, teacher’s room, and library) were built. At the Kitwe Nazarene Community School, 120 students in pre-school through grade 5 study with 7 teachers Monday - Friday. The school provides a maize meal porridge every school day for the students. The Kitwe Nazarene Church’s CDC ministry hosts an afterschool program with 20 children, and are able to offer the children bread. Needs at the Kitwe Nazarene School addressed through this project include:

- a wall fence
- water tap
- floor repairs in three of the classrooms
- more books for the library
- textbooks for each student

Chilabongwe Nazarene Community School: This school currently uses the main church building as its school building, and they have divided the church hall with partitions to create classrooms. There are approximately 70 students who attend this school. This project will help to build a separate building to house the school as well as a surrounding fence.

Chamboli Community School: This school uses what was once the church storeroom as the school room for 20 students from pre-school to third grade. The school began in 2020, and in 2021 they were able to divide the single room into two in order to give the preschoolers their own room. This project will help to address infrastructure needs to upgrade this structure.

Mansansa Community School: In 2021, a group of people who saw the deep need for education in this community, including the pastor, district superintendent, and school committee, convened in order to re-establish a school. This school is currently operating and as of 2022 has 50 students, but the building is unfinished. Parents and committee members have worked together to repair window frames, doors, security gate and the floor, but more remains to be done.

Mansansa Community School is located deep in the bush, so teachers must stay on site. The Zambia Department of Education office said that if the school prepares a teacher’s house to allow a teacher to stay on site, they will send a qualified teacher to the school. Other needs include completing the final touches on the classrooms and purchasing more desks and chairs to provide for all of the students.
