The Province of Palawan is subdivided into 23 municipalities, and 431 barangays. Eleven municipalities are located in the mainland, the other 12 are island municipalities which are accessible by motorized boats. The population has increased to almost 3 million in the past couple of years. Because of the beauty of nature and wonderful beaches, it has become one of the best places to visit and is consistently ranked as one of the best islands in the world. Tourism has become the top job offering aside from agriculture and fishing.

Roman Catholicism is the predominant religion along with pockets of Muslims. There are also tribal peoples with three different indigenous groups that have an animistic belief. There are two organized Nazarene Churches on the Palawan District. New Heights Church of the Nazarene is in Puerto Princesa City, and Malinao Church of the Nazarene is in the municipality of Narra.

This district has a passion to grow in numbers, but also in the training and spiritual growth of the members that are here. This is our starting place. We encourage the pastors and the members to become motivated in continuing the ministry for the Lord. We have helped them in organizing their local boards and ministries. Members are being encouraged to seek ministerial and leadership positions. These new pastors and laypeople are then being assigned ministries in Bible studies, teaching children, youth and adult discipleship, making sermons, preaching, opening outreaches, and church planting.

Through these churches and their members, two more churches were organized last year. In addition, we were able to open up outreaches and three new church planting areas in the city of Puerto Princesa (Sicsican), Narra (Antipoluhan), and Quezon (Malatgao). It is our desire to continue the work in these places and to expand and multiply churches for God’s Kingdom glory.

We want to focus our church planting concentration in the main city of Palawan: Puerto Princesa. It has 66 large barangays. There was only one church when the Church of the Nazarene arrived here, but the growth is continuing! Soon we will be opening an outreach in Barangay Bacungan. We are now in our 40 days of dawn prayer. We have done this prayer vigil for each new ministry area.

We are praying and looking for God’s mercy and provision multiply churches, workers, pastors and laymen here!


*This is a five-year vision, with a scaling cost as the project works toward becoming self-sustaining. The plan is to reduce the estimated annual amount each year as follows:
